The Adelaide Motorsport Festival will add a third Formula 1 car to its schedule, with the Arrows Megatron used during the 1988 season to hit the track on March 25-26.
Driven by American Eddie Cheever during the ’88 F1 season, the A10B Megatron was designed by legendary Formula 1 technical director Ross Brawn, and was powered by a BMW turbocharged engine.
1988 was the last year of the turbocharged engines in F1, with Cheever managing a podium third in a year that Arrows claimed fifth in the constructors championship.
Cheever’s P3 at Monza occurred in a famous race, in which Ferrari claimed an historic one-two at its spiritual home just weeks following the passing of Enzo Ferrari.
The famous one-two followed the dominant McLaren-Honda pair of Artyon Senna and Alain Prost failing to finish, with Senna getting beeched on a kerb at the death, which allowed the Ferrari pair and Cheever to fill the Monza podium.
The two other F1 cars to feature at the festival will be a pair of Brabham BT58’s that contested the 1989 season that were piloted by Stefano Modena and Martin Brundle.
