Maserati may be part of the Stellantis family of car brands, but the automaker is less familial than its counterparts. The company employs Ferrari engines in top-performance trims, and its cars are nothing if not thoroughly Italian in every way. The 2023 model year brings a new SUV model, a grand tourer, and an open-top supercar variant. The other half of Maserati’s lineup enters the new year unchanged.
The Maserati Ghibli carries over into 2023 unchanged, but updates in recent model years should help its case. In 2021, Maserati stuffed a Ferrari V8 under the hood, creating a new Trofeo trim. Even the car’s base twin-turbocharged V6 engine delivers 345 horsepower and a claimed zero-to-60-mph time of just 5.5 seconds.
Maserati’s iconic coupe, the GranTurismo, is all-new for 2023. The automaker modified its Nettuno V6 engine from the MC20 supercar to create two versions of the GranTurismo: the Modena gets a 490-hp twin-turbo V6, and the top Trofeo gets a 550-hp version of the engine.
The GranTurismo will also become Maserati’s first 100-percent battery electric vehicle. The GranTurismo Folgore features 800-volt technology and three electric motors with 760 hp at the wheels. The car features a 92.5-kWh battery and new body construction that utilizes aluminum and magnesium to keep weight down and improve handling.
