Drako Motors was founded by American entrepreneurs Dean Drako and Shiv Sikand in 2013 in San Jose, California. The company started with the Drako GTE, an all-electric luxury sports sedan that came powered by a quad-motor setup generating 1,200 horsepower.
The boutique automaker is getting ready to launch its second model, and this time it’s an electric-powered “super SUV” called the Drako Dragon. Also equipped with four electric motors and a battery developed in-house, the Dragon is expected to roar out of the gates with 2,000 horsepower.
The “Super SUV” Segment
Luxury brands like Lamborghini and Aston Martin have seen remarkable growth on the backs of their SUVs. The market has been hungry for crossovers, SUVs and trucks while sedans have dropped in popularity; even Ferrari has an SUV joining the stable in 2023.
Drako recognized the need to round out its portfolio of two (so far) with what appears to be a highly-competitive performance SUV.
If the Drako Dragon were to be propelled by an internal-combustion engine, one might call it a fire-breathing beast. As an electric SUV, however, it carries the same ferocity but without the requirement to burn fuel. The automaker says it can operate on road, off-road and on the track.
