British luxury cars can be a bit hit or miss. When they’re good, there’s absolutely nothing that can beat a slice of good old-fashioned British luxury. When they’re not good, however, it’s not even worth going anywhere near them. There are quite a few British luxury cars that nobody ever talks about anymore. There are very good reasons for that!
Whether it’s because they were unreliable, underpowered, poorly built, badly engineered, or just so ugly that they’re repulsive, there are plenty of misfires from the best British brands. Here are some British luxury cars that absolutely nobody wants to be associated with!
8/8 Jaguar Mark 1
We all know about the Jaguar Mark 2. What about the Mark 1, though? It’s nowhere near as well known as its descendant and there’s probably a very good reason for that. Whilst the Mark 1 looked great and was supremely luxurious for its time, it was originally underpowered. Jaguar tried to solve this by putting its racing-developed 3.4-liter straight six into it. Whilst this gave the Mark 1 an amazing performance boost, the power was too much for the other components to handle. This resulted in a very dangerous car that actually killed one of its owners. That particular owner was racing driver Mike Hawthorn, who had tuned his 3.4-liter Mark 1 beyond what the factory was able to get out of it.
