To celebrate its arrival in the United States, Rimac showcased the Nevera, their electric hypercar, at the 2022 Monterrey Car Week

While this may be old news (by industry standards) as the event happened over two weeks ago, the sheer pleasure of seeing a product from Croatia on U.S. roads warrants an article. After all, I come from the same Mediterranean country, with great hopes for Rimac and its success. And seeing the Rimac Nevera on the same roads, accompanied by the same scenery as some of our client’s and friends’ cars is all the better. After all, the roads in California offer some of the most pleasing scenery and backdrop for shooting cars in the world.

If you were living under the rock for the last 4-5 years, then you’ll be pleased to know some facts about the Nevera. It’s a 1,914 horsepower electric hypercar, powered by four bespoke Rimac-engineered electric motors, which propels the hypercar from 0-60mph in just 1.85 seconds, and to 100mph in 4.3 seconds. Proudly sporting a name in honor of its homeland, a nevera is an unexpected Mediterranean summer storm off the coast of Croatia. Some ’90s car models have seen a tremendous popularity boost and price increase recently. Industry insiders have attributed the surge to millennial nostalgia. But the reality is that many consumers are only now realizing how outstanding these cars are. Due to their reputation for durability, outstanding performance, and distinctive style, collectible automobiles from the 1990s are becoming more and more popular among Americans. CNN reports that not only high-performance luxury brands like Ferrari, Bugatti, and McLaren have won in value, but also several ‘90s models that belong to Toyota, Mitsubishi, and Volkswagen.

“Values, for the last three years, for cars and vehicles from the 1990s have increased the most out of any decade,” said Brian Rabold, vice president of Hagerty.

Additionally, Rabold noted that during the last three years, values for collectible cars from the 1990s had climbed by an average of 78 percent. And if you are thinking that only sedans and sport utility vehicles have won in value in recent years, you are mistaken because even certain trucks are in high-demand. For instance, the 1993 to 1995 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning has also skyrocketed in value.

Lamborghini has produced many of the exotic machines that dominate the minds of gearheads around the world. The first defining car from the brand, the Miura, announced Lamborghini to the world. It was even one of the fastest cars in the world when it went into production in 1966 and featured the first of many iconic Lamborghini V12 engines. This sports car started the run of the cars that led to the Italian bull gracing the front of some of the most-respected performance cars the world has ever seen.

With such an extensive legacy, it’s hard to tell if Lamborghini will ever revive the Miura name as it did with the release of the new Countach. WOKING, England — The global auto industry has committed $1.2 trillion to developing electric vehicles, providing a golden opportunity for new suppliers to grab contracts providing everything from battery packs to motors and inverters.

Startups specializing in batteries and coatings to protect EV parts, and suppliers traditionally focused on niche motorsports or Formula One (F1) racing, have been chasing EV contracts.

Automakers design platforms to last a decade, so high-volume models can generate large revenues for years.

The next generation of EVs from automakers such as BMW is due to hit around 2025 and many automakers have sought help plugging gaps in their expertise, providing a window of opportunity for new suppliers.

“We have gone back to the days of Henry Ford where everyone is asking ‘how do you make these things work properly?’,” says Nick Fry, CEO of F1 engineering and technology firm McLaren Applied.

“That’s a huge opportunity for companies like us.”

Bought from McLaren by private equity firm Greybull Capital in 2021, McLaren Applied has adapted an efficient inverter developed for F1 racing for EVs. An inverter helps control the flow of electricity to and from the battery pack.

The silicon carbide IPG5 inverter weighs just 5.5 kg (12 pounds) and can extend an EV’s range by over 7 percent.

Fry says McLaren Applied is working with around 20 automakers and suppliers, and the inverter will appear in high-volume luxury EV models starting January 2025.

Mass-market…

The next-gen Lexus LFA will likely cost less than one-eighth of the EV hypercar while boasting similar 0-60 times and a possible manual transmission.

It’s been almost a decade since we saw the Lexus LFA blitzing tracks around the globe. The purity of its driving experience and the amount of engineering involved makes the Lexus LFA one of the greatest of all time. While details about its successor are slim, there is reason to believe the upcoming LFA replacement will be an all-electric supercar.

The Lexus LFA was a very exclusive item aimed at the wealthy. A one-of-a-kind prospect from the Japanese marque, the LFA goes down in the history books as a JDM legend that gave Lamborghinis and Ferraris a run for their money.

Truth be told, reception was quite meh post the release. Lexus even struggled to sell all 500 units. While people were skeptical about this Japanese oddball, there was no doubt in its abilities as a high-performance machine. With speed, sophistication, and Corolla-like reliability, the LFA was Toyota’s motorsport division having a say in how a supercar should be.

With its successor, though, we anticipate things to be more exciting. For one, reports point to the LFA’s replacement having incredibly low 0-60 mph times and that it might even sport a manual transmission. But before…
