As everyone knows, it’s called the Purosangue, and guns for the likes of the Lamborghini Urus, Bentley Bentayga Speed, and Aston Martin DBX707. The Purosangue represents Ferrari’s first venture into the world of super SUVs (it’s actually a crossover though), and they may be a little late to the high-riding fiesta, but they should cash in big time.
You see, Lamborghini more than doubled their sales with the Urus, so Ferrari has high expectations from the Purosangue. It targets their usual clientele, as well as new customers, for whom having extra seats at the back, four doors, and a generous ground clearance means more than tackling corners fast in a mid-engine supercar. But then again, with an MSRP of nearly $400,000 stateside, anyone who can afford it probably calls the Roma pocket change.
Unveiled half a year ago, and with production set to commence at Maranello, the Purosangue was designed by Ferrari’s Styling Center, under the close watch of Flavio Manzoni, who has overseen the development of other Prancing Horses, including the LaFerrari. Described as a machine “unlike any other,” it uses a naturally aspirated V12, with a 6.5-liter displacement. The engine peaks at 716 Nm (528 lb-ft), and it develops 725 ps (715 hp/533 kW). The Italian company claims that it will do over 310 kph (193 mph) and that the 0-100 kph (0-62 mph) acceleration takes only 3.3 seconds, or three tenths faster than the mighty Enzo.
Right now, Ferrari’s focus is on electrification….

Say hello to the all-new Purosangue (poore-oh-sang-way). A tongue twister of a name, it means “thoroughbred” in Italian. True to its pedigree, Ferrari has kept the fundamentals of this hallowed brand intact, despite breaking a few traditions. It’s the first four door Ferrari in history and comes with an SUV-like ground clearance.
The Purosangue is comfortable, spacious and high enough above the ground to suit India’s inconsistent roads.
But calling the Purosangue an SUV is blasphemous (for Ferrari). It’s a radical departure from the SUV template followed by Lamborghini, Porsche and Aston Martin and is more of a high-riding coupe.
Ferrari may have stepped out of its comfort zone by jacking up the ride height and adding an extra pair of doors, but this has unwittingly made the Purosangue the perfect Ferrari for India. Let’s start with the 185mm ground clearance which makes it an everywhere car, not just one for curated drives on hard-to-find smooth roads.
What’s unique are the Purosangue’s rear-hinged doors, which open wide. (Remember your granddad’s Fiat?) This makes getting in and out easy for rear passengers who don’t have to stretch out to shut the door. That job is done with the press of a button.
The place to be in any Ferrari is the driver’s seat, and the Purosangue’s cockpit is certainly the business. From the elevated driving position, you can see well beyond the long bonnet. The chunky flat-bottomed steering wheel is great to…

Ferrari, an Italian sports car manufacturer, has recently shared that it would reveal its first ever SUV, the Purosangue on September 13. The automaker has teased its front end with angled headlights. This much awaited Italian SUV will first come with a new V12 engine.
Powertrain of Ferrari Purosangue
Ferrari has confirmed that its upcoming Purosangue SUV will get a new naturally aspirated V12 engine. Benedetto Vigna, CEO of Ferrari said in a statement, “We have tested several options. It was clear that the V12, for the performance and driving experience it could provide, was the right option for the market.”
Vigna also stated that from the test drives in the hills around Maranello, the automaker can tell that this upcoming SUV is a true sportscar and unlike any other. He said, “Purosangue will be 100 per cent Ferrari and it will meet and exceed all the demands of performance, innovation and design that you would expect from us.”

After some initial hesitation, ultra-luxury, low-volume performance brands have thoroughly embraced SUVs. Lamborghini has had one for a while. Aston Martin added one to its roster a bit more recently. And of course Ferrari will soon have one, too. McLaren, though? As it happens, team orange has historically been a holdout on the SUV front — though that may not be the case for much longer.
The report comes to us by way of Autocar, which claims without attribution that McLaren is planning to launch a battery-electric SUV in the “second half” of the 2020s. Being a big EV, it would be even more expensive than the likes of the GT and Artura, landing in the £350,000 range. While the strategy supposedly for now is to push only one model for the foreseeable future, the SUV would grow to offer a variety of specifications, not dissimilar from McLaren’s approach to its supercar and hypercar offerings. From the article:
The new crossover, on course to hit the market in the second half of this decade, will be a fully battery-electric proposition, not a hybrid, and will never be available with a combustion engine.
McLaren is understood to be eyeing a single model to begin with, but past practice suggests different specifications and power levels will be offered in time, similar to the Aston Martin DBX.
The new McLarens are believed to be relatively low, compact, dual- or tri-motor, four-wheel-drive designs offering exalted performance levels likely to match the recently launched Aston Martin DBX 707, currently billed as the world’s fastest SUV.
Now, the usual disclaimers of unattributed rumors about things you won’t see for probably five years, maybe more certainly applies here, so go get your grains of salt. That said, McLaren changing its tune and…

Ferrari Purosangue: This is happening.Photo: Ferrari
After years of rumors, renders, leaks and legal battles, Ferrari has finally crumbled and admitted that 2022 is the year it finally unveils its version of a luxury utility vehicle. An oxymoron if ever there was one.
Italy’s most famous car maker has been churning out stunning supercars for 75 years. It’s even celebrating this anniversary with the latest naming convention for its F1 racer, the F1-75.
But, in a wild departure from the sleek, elegant art form of supercar design, it is instead preparing to unveil its first Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).
Reported to be called the Ferrari Purosangue, the new car has been doing the rounds in the rumor mill for years. It will see Ferrari become one of the last luxury car makers to enter the SUV segment, following similar moves from Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Rolls Royce, Bentley and Porsche.
Ferrari confirmed the car and teased a glimpse of what it could look like with posts across its social media accounts this week. The Italian company shared an image of the new car’s front end, showing distinct similarities to Ferrari’s SF90 Stradale. Albeit, much taller and heftier than this sleek supercar.
G/O Media may get a commission
Details of the new Ferrari are thin on the ground. The Italian firm has so far confirmed that it will have four-wheel-drive and that the car will run on a new front mid-engine platform.
In an earnings call way back in 2018, Ferrari also confirmed that the SUV will utilize a newly developed double-clutch transmission, and the interior will be “spacious and comfortable,” which is surely the least you can ask for in a six-figure utility vehicle?
As well as teasing an image of the front end, Ferrari confirmed that further details of the SUV would be revealed “later this year.”
The firm also said that the Purosangue’s “bloodline can be traced back through our 75-year history of innovation, evolution and uncompromising performance,” which is a very Ferrari statement to make.
Can’t wait for Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna to burst on stage at the SUV’s reveal to try and convince us all that this is the natural evolution of the Dinio or even the F12 Berlinetta.

The firm claims the new car will be a “genuine game changer” when it launches. But what performance can Ferrari muster from an SUV that can’t be unlocked by the likes of Lamborghini or Aston Martin?
That remains to be seen. But, until further details are announced, are you excited at the prospect of the Ferrari Purosangue?
Or, with an ever-growing emphasis on hybrid and electric cars, is this a vehicle that risks being outdated before it hits the streets?
