Tesla Model X Plaid Races Two Italian Supercars

The Tesla Model S Plaid collected headlines as the fastest EV when it was stacked up against a variety of ridiculously quick super and hypercars. Currently, it’s still the record holder at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca among electric cars.
That aside, the Model S Plaid created large shoes to fill for the “Plaid” name. So, will the Model X Plaid prove worthy of the highly decorated moniker? CarWow’s Mat Watson put in the work to find out. Though, it proved difficult to find cars that were a match for Plaid’s power figures.
The Model X Plaid generates a jaw-dropping 1,020 horsepower and 752 pound-feet of torque. These are, even for a car that weighs well over two and a half tons, intimidating numbers. Especially considering the fact that an all-electric vehicle has 100% torque from a stop. Paired with an all-wheel-drive system, the Model X Plaid has a launch that would peel the paint off of a building.
The closest contender for the Plaid was the Ferrari SF90. This Ferrari, when combined with the three electric motors that power the front wheels in conjunction with the screaming engine four-liter V8 at the back, makes only 34 fewer horsepower than the Tesla. With 590 pound-feet of torque and all-wheel drive, the power alone makes it a very close call. The severe advantage the Ferrari has over the EV is the weight – it’s 1,985 pounds lighter than the Tesla.
