The new Porsche 911 Dakar should give the Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato a run for its money with its high-performance off-roading capabilities.

Sometimes automakers like to push the envelope in design and types of vehicles. And occasionally, they have had many copycats like the BMW X6, or they have been a complete and utter flop like the Nissan Murano Cross Cabriolet. Porsche has never really been one to push any boundaries. They have been one to stick to tradition and what they do best, and it has worked for them.

This is what makes the conception of the Porsche 911 Dakar slightly surprising. On one hand, this kind of off-road sports car is deeply rooted in this history (the name “Dakar” is also the name of a rally that Porsche raced safari-style 911s in) but this is not something that is common in the automotive universe. Granted, many people have taken it upon themselves to convert conventional 911s into lifted safaris, but nothing has been available stock by the automaker until now. The off-roading supercar is a new segment only currently occupied by the 911 Dakar and Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato and by the looks of it, the Dakar will be an instant icon. Only 2,500 are being made for the whole world, meaning the scarcity will only add upon the sheer demand of this car.
