Volkswagen is eyeing a mid 2024 launch for its reborn electric Kombi in Australia – available in people-mover and delivery-van forms – once it gets final approval from head office.
The electric Volkswagen Kombi revival – the Volkswagen ID. Buzz people mover and related ID. Buzz Cargo van – are due in local showrooms in mid 2024, once they are given the final green light for Australia.
Volkswagen Australia has not been given the final sign-off to introduce the ID. Buzz – but it says plans are in motion to have both people mover and ‘Cargo’ van versions in local showrooms in mid 2024.
The final model line-up for Australia is yet to be determined, however the company says it is interested in all versions available overseas: short and long wheelbases, up to seven seats, larger and smaller batteries, and optional all-wheel drive.
Prices in the UK start from the equivalent of about $AU65,000 for a stripped-out, base-model commercial van – and rise beyond $AU100,000 for a top-of-the-range people mover.
“There’s no reason why [the final sign-off] wouldn’t happen,” Volkswagen Australia commercial vehicles director Ryan Davies told media last week.
“The business case is fundamentally approved. But it’s really the technical elements that are going through the process of being signed off now and we’re anticipating that will come to us, hopefully before Christmas.
